When we talk about die-hard fans, some people take their love for their idols to another level and Agoje 1 Jnr. is one of them. The rising musician, writer, and creative force recently went viral (at least in his community) for a heartfelt and humorous gesture to his musical hero, 2Baba, on the legend’s 50th birthday and 25th anniversary in the music industry.

A Status Update That Spoke Volumes

On 2Baba’s golden jubilee, Agoje 1 Jnr. posted a WhatsApp status with a powerful caption calling the Afropop legend “a relic of greatness; a path to many generations, the idan of the game.” In true Gen Z style, when 2Baba did not view or react to the post of course, Agoje has no direct contact with him he cheekily took to Facebook and wrote:

“Dear legend, I noticed you did not react to my status about you, did you not see it sir? (lol)”

It was lighthearted, funny, and incredibly relatable for fans who have ever wished their icons could just notice them — even for a second.

More Than a Fan — A Musical Protégé in Spirit

But this is more than a fan crush. Agoje 1 Jnr., born Isaac G. Ochai, is a musician and writer who shares a deep spiritual and artistic connection with 2Baba. He told Lyricssphere reporters:

“My love for the legend began a very long time ago, from secondary school days in Oyewole. More like I am possessed with his love. I love his lifestyle, his maturity, his philosophy… I have been using them and they have been helpful. 2Baba is omnipotent, he is a sage, he is way out of life’s shackles.”

Agoje says he has been working on a massive anime-inspired screenplay project titled “Grass to Grace” (clearly inspired by 2Baba’s classic album). He calls this project his life’s work, something he has nurtured since his teenage years. He hopes 2Baba might someday approve and sponsor the project into full production.

A Dream That Feels Close Enough to Touch

This is not the first time Agoje has been close to his idol. In 2018, he won a ticket to 2Baba’s Buckwyld and Breathless concert (a night that also featured the late Sound Sultan). He recalls the concert with a bittersweet tone — overjoyed to have been in the same room as the legend but unable to tell him how much he meant to him because of concert barriers.

Now older and more confident, Agoje believes he is ready to fully launch his love for 2Baba, music career and creative work into the world; and hopes this public declaration of love for 2Baba can be the catalyst for that connection.

“I dream every other day of him. He encourages me in my dream to keep pushing that someday they will come true.”
