Stanley Omah Didia, professionally known as Omah Lay, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer who has rapidly ascended in the global music scene. Born on May 19, 1997, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, he hails from Egbeda, Emohua Local Government Area. His musical lineage includes a grandfather who was a percussionist for the renowned highlife singer Celestine Ukwu, and a father who was a local drummer, embedding music deeply into his upbringing.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Omah Lay’s journey into music began in his teenage years as a rapper under the moniker “Lil King.” Transitioning into music production, he crafted beats and wrote songs for other artists but felt underappreciated for his contributions. This realization propelled him to step into the spotlight as a performing artist.

In 2019, he released his self-produced singles “Do Not Disturb” and “Hello Brother,” which garnered significant attention in Port Harcourt. These tracks led to a record deal with Lagos-based label KeyQaad, prompting his move to Lagos to further his music career.

Breakthrough and Rise to Fame

Omah Lay’s official debut single, “You,” released on February 14, 2020, quickly went viral, marking his entry into the mainstream music industry. His debut EP, Get Layd, released in May 2020, featured hits like “Lo Lo,” “Bad Influence,” “Ye Ye Ye,” and “Damn,” all of which charted in the top 15 on Nigeria’s Apple Music charts, with “You” peaking at number one.

Following this success, he released his second EP, What Have We Done, in November 2020. The project included popular tracks such as “My Bebe,” “Can’t Relate,” and “Godly,” with the latter reaching number one on Nigeria’s Apple Music charts.

Collaborations and International Recognition

Omah Lay’s unique blend of Afro-fusion, R&B, and hip-hop has led to collaborations with international artists. In March 2022, he teamed up with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber on the single “Attention,” further cementing his global appeal.

His debut studio album, Boy Alone, released in 2022, received critical acclaim for its introspective lyrics and innovative sound. The album’s deluxe edition, released in 2023, continued to showcase his growth as an artist.

Personal Life and Advocacy

Omah Lay is known for his introspective songwriting, often delving into personal experiences and emotions. He has been open about his struggles with mental health, using his music as a form of therapy and expression.

In 2020, he actively participated in the #EndSARS protests against police brutality in Nigeria, using his platform to raise awareness and advocate for change.
